I already use XP® instruments, why would I need new Glacier™ instruments?
Whilst the Glacier™ instrument uses XP² Technology, the redesigned blade enables the clinician to remove more calculus efficiently and improves contact with the tooth surface.

What is the difference between XP² and Glacier™?
The key difference between XP² and Glacier™ instruments is the geometry of the working end. The inward-tilting facial surface improves sharpness, is easier to adapt, and ensures an even longer-lasting cutting edge.

What are the advantages of Glacier™ compared to XP²?
The working end geometry allows for less effort during use, reducing clinician fatigue. The universal scalers and curettes offer greater tolerance regarding the angle of adaptation making them much easier to use.

Will other well-known types of instruments also be available as Glacier™ instruments in the future?
Yes, we will soon be able to offer further scalers and curettes under the Glacier™ design.

Why aren’t the Double Gracey™ Curettes available in the Glacier™ version?
The cutting geometry of a Double Gracey cannot be replicated in Glacier™.

How long do Glacier™ instruments last compared to stainless steel instruments?
This depends on how well a stainless steel instrument is maintained and properly sharpened. Glacier™ instruments require no sharpening during their lifespan, helping reduce maintenance time and replacement frequency.

Do I need to do anything special in the cleaning process to make sure my Glacier™ instruments get clean?
No, you can reprocess Glacier™ instruments in exactly the same way as standard American Eagle XP² instruments.

Does the actual blade/cutting angle change in the scalers and in Gracey curettes? If it does change, is it necessary to adapt the technique, or is it truly intuitive to use?
No scaling technique change is required. The improved cutting angle of Glacier™ instruments make them more “forgiving” for clinicians – there is noticeably less lateral force needed to remove calculus.

Are Glacier™ instruments different when being applied to the tooth surface compared to a standard scaler or curette?
No – rather, Glacier™ instruments are even less sensitive to angle, making them more forgiving when dealing with access or positioning challenges in hard-to-reach anatomies.

Have there been any changes to the lightweight resin handle of American Eagle Instruments?
No, the lightweight resin handle of American Eagle Instruments has been retained in its tried-and-tested form.

What does the sharpness of the instrument mean for the tooth surface?
